Thank you for wanting to fight this ordinance with an initiative that would restore the decision making on this very significant issue to the voters, where it should have been all along!

If we get enough people who indicate they are willing to get involved in a substantial way, we can begin organizing and getting ready to make our case to the public at large. Make no mistake: it will not be easy. We will need to draw up a petition; gather 5250 valid signatures of Berkeley voters (which likely means we will need 6500 raw signatures or more); devise an outreach campaign to explain the issue to voters who haven’t been following it; create an advertising campaign and materials; solicit endorsers; establish media contacts; raise money; raise money; raise money – and that’s just the start of the list.

But if we’re successful in getting the initiative qualified for the 2026 general election, and we work very hard and very smartly, we can take back control of the direction of the city. This is a fight that is long overdue.

Please don’t sign up if you don’t have the fight in you. You don’t have to be able to devote your life to this, and your involvement can be large or small, but it needs to be dependable. This is not the kind of task that can be accomplished by a group of 10 or 15 people, no matter how energetic or devoted they are.

Many of us feel that the city has been taken over by special interests and that we have been rendered irrelevant by our leaders. So, consider this: What will change if we don't do something about it right now? How else do we make it clear that the status quo is simply not acceptable?

If you can accept this challenge, then please fill out the form below. Hopefully, together, we will be able to make a difference for our city and its future.
