There were 491 communications received:
- 371 were against passing the ordinance in its current form and without citywide outreach and open discussion.
- 119 favored enhancing and passing the ordinance. Of the 119 letters, 23 came from people living outside Berkeley (mostly Oakland, but also SF, San Leandro, Fremont, Pleasanton, Alameda). *
1172 signatures were submitted on the Build a Better Berkeley petition opposing passage (another 38 signatures were submitted at the meeting itself).
Those opposing the ordinance wrote 147 original letters and 224 form letters (with 8 submitted twice and omitted in this count). Those for the ordinance submitted 31 original letters and 88 form ones. Of the 88 form letters from the proponents, 77 were submitted in duplicate, and the city incorrectly counted these duplications in its summary of submissions. We omitted them in this accounting.
